  • Originally named after King Charles I
  • "Carolina came from the Latin word "Carolus" that is translated to "Charles"
Founder

  • Wasn't split from North Carolina until 1729

Charleston, South Carolina
  • Was first named Charles Town 
  • This was where everything from plantation cites to events such as Hanging of the Pirate Stede Bonnet took place 
  • Charleston was the capital city of the colony
  • Charles Craven
  •  Governor of colonial South Carolina during the Tuscarora and Yamese Wars.
  • Stede Bonnet 
  • Known as "The Gentleman Pirate. He was hung in South Carolina for challenging the Governor and his orders.

  • The Anglicans were known as nonconformists
  • All religious groups practiced their religion freely until the mid 1700s

  • No public education in South Carolina until the 1790s
