Chipmunk- Transition

The main focus is the medium close up of the artist which allows us to see his facial expression as well as his body language. His stern look and use of direct eye contact portrays a confident image of him. He also has a humble look and the air brushing effect used on his skin gives him a soft tone and feeds on his humble representation.

His hand gesture makes him look like he’s praying, he could be thanking God for the improvements in his life” and also the ray of light that shines across him could connote that his life is brightening up which links in with the idea of new beginnings hence the title of the album “Transition”. His image is more masculine compared to his last album cover so this album could also be about him transforming into a man which could be why they’ve chosen to reveal his tattoos. The airbrushing effect used on his skin gives him a soft tone. The artists name and album title has been placed in the corner so that it doesn’t take the attention off the main focus which is the image of the artists however it is in bold and capitals so that it is still easily noticeable.

The same typography is used throughout the whole digipak even on the spine of the CD cover. There is a clear simplistic house style throughout of black and white which connotes that his progress is clear cut. Also the record label "Sony" is printed at the bottom which creates synergy between the artist as people may be a fan of Chipmunk and want to check out other artists that are signed to Sony or vise versa. The tracklist is laid out in a paragraph formation and the cover itself has similarities to a blurb of a book which could connote that the album is a story before and how its all changing now hence the name of the album. I feel that the use of one plain colour for the background of the cover is effective as it allows the writing stand out more which is a idea I could consider using for my own CD digipak.

The san serif bold font helps the artists name and title of the album stand out and also portrays this idea of masculinity which links in with the image of the artist on the front.

J Hus- The 15th Day
The artist is placed in the left corner of the CD cover looking away which suggests that the tracks on his album are going to be focused around his thoughts and feelings. The grey tone on the picture of the artist matches the grey wall which could suggest that the streets is a dark place and could also be used to represent his background as he possibly grew up on the streets, not literally and therefore the album could represent his thoughts and feelings of the street life. This deep thoughtful image of the artist on the cover is something I could incorporate in my album cover as my song has a similar theme of exploring emotion.

The colour scheme consists of dull colours such as various shades of grey and black but "15th Day" has a red background which could be trying to represent actual bricks whilst making it stand out amongst the rest of the text. The album name is represented in a stamp like way which suggests that it serves a certain amount of importance like a stamp on a letter would. This is a colour scheme that I may consider adopting for my album as it fits in with the grime genre.
This medium close up shot has more of a natural light compared to the image on the front cover and the artist is giving direct eye contact. The producers "JOAT Music group" is promoted both on the front and on the back as they're not very known so it gives them more exposure. The san serif text used for the track list makes it easy to read and is also a conventional font of a album cover.
The front cover is presented in an animated way which could be trying to point out that the image shouldn't be taken literally as it could cause offence if an actual image was used and therefore its just a representation of what his album is about. Usually when someone says let them have it, it refers to an action of some sort however in this case it seems as though he's substituting actions for words as the sound waves which could be trying to highlight that the lyrics in his album will be powerful with a deep meaning. The artists body language represents him as being quite powerful and the colour scheme red, yellow and black connotes danger.

Also the title of the song has been spelt phonetically to represent the artists accent and links in with the grime genre as the artists of that genre don't usually conform to speaking in standard english.

Giggs- Let Em Ave It
The close up shot of the side of the actors face allows the audience to only get a glimpse of his emotional as he's looking down and his body language is closed in a way which could imply that he's in deep thought. This shot type is an inspiration for my back cover. The black and white pencil effect used on the image could be showing that his thoughts are dark and also links to the animated front cover. The independent record label has been included at the bottom of the CD which promotes not only the artist but the record label itself.
