The Show Must Go                       On!
By Luke Weldon
In our production diary we noted down everything we done from the first lesson of editing all the way through to the last one.

Lesson 1 - 7th October 2015, we was given our prelim task today which involves producing a movie clip/opening on a specific genre. After being put into groups, my group was me, Georgia, Jack and Elona. After discussing our thoughts and ideas together as a group we selected the genre, musical! Firstly, we began to mind map ideas based on our background of knowledge from a typical musical. For instance the music to use, lip syncing and setting. We decided on our main setting which was a classroom. This was our starting point. Secondly, we began to discuss what angled we would shoot from and the types of shots included which were all noted down on a storyboard. Finally, our group decided on specific roles for the prelim task. Me and Georgia were allocated to camera/film duty while Elona and Jack are the actors.
Lesson 2 - 8th October 2015, Today's task was to complete the storyboard on our production. One of the most difficult parts of our video was to find covers of the queen songs since we would be breaching copyright if we used their music. We began to use you tube to see if we could find covers, which was a pretty good turn out. We also completed the storyboard on the shots we are going to take and brief descriptions on the setting.
Lesson 3 - 12th October 2015, today was our final research and planning day which involved esembling all of the final pieces of the project together like the song covers, shooting schedule and the storyboard. A risk assessment was also produced in case we faced any injuries or bad weather. We are due to start filming tomorrow the classroom scene.
Production diary
This is the production diary continued...

Lesson 4 - 13th October, all of this lesson was spent on filming our film clip/opening scene. We filmed about 5 scenes and were happy with how much we got done. We do not really have much to talk about in this lesson, as it was just spent on filming some of the scenes for the film opening and then uploading onto the computer ready for when it was all done and ready to edit.
Lesson 5 - 14th October, in this lesson, we spent the whole lesson filming, however so we could start editing I stayed in the class as i was only in one scene and i began the editing whilst Jack, Elona and Georgia all went out to film the rest. We felt this was the best decision as we could get the editing done as well as finish off the filming. By the end of the lesson we had finished off the filming and done a good amount of editing, we then decided that the rest of the editing we could split between the group.
Lesson 6 - 16th October, in this lesson we managed to finish off everything that we had to do, this included uploading all of the videos so that we could edit them into the short film on Adobe Premier, and finish off the editing including adding some bloopers in the end that we did not even need. All of us in the group helped with the editing, as we all done some whenever we could on the Friday including in our free lessons. After finishing it we did have a problem uploading onto you tube as something went wrong, however it was all OK and completed by the dead line.

Production diary
Our film is basically about two children that have ended up in detention on the same night as the musical/play and therefore need to find away out of the detention because the teacher would not let them go. After finding a way out before the teacher arrived to the detention the teacher was on the search for them and whilst on the 'run' from detention the children sing songs including break free and don't stop me now.

As the short film progressed the children were getting closer and closer towards the play/musical. The teacher is not in the play after the children has got away, we would assume that he has gone to get another teacher or the head teacher to help get the children back. The short film ends when the two children are on stage in the Primmer Hall, and were going to begin the play.
Brief film treatment
What we had to do:

The prelim task was to basically create a short film in groups that we were put into about a genre of our choice, however we could not choose the same genre as another group in the same class. Our group ended up choosing a musical.

The point of the prelim task was so that the teachers would know what problems we had whilst creating the short films therefore when we are creating our film for the 'real' thing then we could hopefully avoid the errors from the prelim task and for the film to be a lot better next time.

We were also asked to include at least 7 different shots match on action, shot reverse shot, 180 degree rule, establishing shot, at least two close-ups, tracking shot and a high angle shot.

Prelim task synopsis
The evaluation that we got from our class in general was good. Most of the people said that the genre of our short film was clear and that you could easily understand the genre from the short film, whereas a small group of people said that the genre was not clear and that the genre was not clear, as it was too much like a comedy rather than a musical.
Also during the short film we did include all of the shots that were supposed to be in and the majority of the people throughout the classes saw that we did and therefore marked the short film as we had included all of the shots. However some people said that we did not include all of the shots that we were supposed to, as a group we thought that these people may have just not been watching closely enough to see that we did include all of the shots.
Throughout the marking from students in classes we had a variety of opinions on our cameras, editing, sound and Mise En Scene work, whereas some people thought that all of this was good and some people would disagree. Overall, people did say that our camera work was good, however some said that the editing was not so good and should have been edited a lot better.
Lastly, the script and story mainly gained negative feedback as people said that they did not understand the story of what was going on and did not like the fact that there was not any script and that the two characters did not say anything.
Overall, people from classes said that their impression on the short film was OK, and that they did not think it was bad. Some people said that it was funny and that they enjoyed it whereas some said that they did not like it at all. We scored on average around 35/50, we though as a group this was a good score for our preliminary task.

Peer evaluation

All together i think that as a group we all worked well, and that out of all of us Elona worked the hardest as she was an actor, helped editing, done the speak over and uploaded our storyboard, therefore i think that Elona would deserve the most credit for our prelim task as a group. I then think that me and Georgia both done roughly the same amount, as i done a little acting where i appeared in one scene and i also done editing along with writing the brief film treatment. Georgia done the camera work and helped editing a long with doing the production diary, therefore i think that me and Georgia deserve credit a bit, whereas Jack done the least in the group as he only acted and completed the shooting schedule for the group.

I think that overall as a group we all worked well and everyone would agree on what ideas we had thought of doing before going ahead with them as we wanted to be sure that as a group we were all happy with the outcome of the task. Overall, i was happy with the finished task and how much i done, as i thought that i done a good amount of work for the group and that we all helped completing the task even if some did not do as much as others.
