Case study three:

Red riding hood film poster

Red riding hood

- Much like our film, the film featured in this poster (Red Riding Hood) is also of the Thriler genre, and it is also set in the woods. It also uses some creative techniques/ideas for the layout of its film poster.

Layout

- This film poster uses a very simple layout.

- The background shows the location that the film primarily takes place in.

- The main character, as well as the text is centred.

- Along the bottom is the the title of the film, the only piece of text in a red font colour.

- and underneath that is the date at which the film is available to be seen in cinemas.

Layout

- At the centre of the page is an image of the main character taken in colour, while the background is shot in black and white. This creates a contrast between the main character(the focal point of the image) and the background, which makes her stand out. This draws the audience's attention to the main character as she stands out more.

- As well as that, the edges of the poster are pitch black and fade in highlighting the image of the forest and red riding hood in the centre of the poster. Once again, this was done to direct the focus to the man character.

Text

- Along the top of the page is a line that reads "From the Creators of Twilight" This was done as it attracts people, as they find out that it was directed by the same director of the very popular Film series Twilight.

- All text is written in a white font colour, apart from the title which is written in red. This was done to make the title stand out as it is the most important piece of text on the page. Also, the creators of this posters have cleverly chosen the colour red to match the theme of the main character and her costume. The font used for the title gives off a very spooky feel and compliments the film's genre, Thriller.

- At the top of the page in bold writing is a quote. This was done as it makes the quote more memorable, which makes the film itself more memorable.

What I liked about this film poster

- I like how the main character is the only thing in the image that is in colour as it makes her stand out and seem more eye catching.

- I like the font used for the title and how it matched the colour scheme of the poster.

- I like how it had a quote placed on the poster in bold writing to make the poster and movie itself more memorable.
