Throughout my production work and the planning for it, I made sure the
techniques I used were suitable to represent a certain social group from age
17-30 year olds, who have an interest in the indie genre.
Firstly,
on my front cover, my main image follows the codes and conventions of the indie
genre as the model is within the age range of my target audience and he is also
wearing dark clothing and standing boldly. This represents a particular social
group as he is of a similar age to the readers which will encourage them to
read the magazine. Also, the clothing will attract readers interested in the
indie genre as the clothing is plaid in red which also reinforces my colour
scheme. The attitude of my model is moody and as if they are bored which
correlates with the genre of my magazine. Also, on my front cover I have
included well-known indie artists, which will appeal to a social group as
mostly teenagers are interested in these artists. This means they can focus on
my magazine as they will instantly have an interest in it because they are
likely to be fans of the musicians. I was able to get an idea of what artists I
was going to use on my front cover because of the questionnaire I produced; the
responses I got helped me make my decision. Also, my coverlines represent a
particular social group as they relate to more teenagers than others because
there are artists mentioned in some coverlines that have a lot of teenage fans.
My
masthead is also targeted at a social group as it is ‘Indie Vibe’ and will
appeal to a group of people that are interested and have a passion for indie
music.
