Before I decided on a solid and completed plot line, I thought I was research through watching existing media. I used the application Netflix to watch all of the Paranormal Activity Series as I felt that these films shared similarities with my current idea. I also decided to watch a film called MAMA, which I rented on the Apple Store as again, I felt that this plot line could also influence my own. After watching all of the films, I decided that my main influence would come from MAMA as I didn't want to go down the 'found footage' route as my current research told me that my audience would prefer it if my trailer was filmed with a high quality camera.
I then began watching more trailers on YouTube to give me a better idea as to what to include in a trailer by analysing ones from the horror genre and with similarities in the narrative. When it came to creating my ancillary products, I used existing media's such as Empire Magazine and the Poster's from some of the film trailers that I had already analysed.
After this I got people from my target audience to react to the MAMA trailer as it was the one to have the most influence on my narrative and editing style. Because this was just some quick research, I recorded the two people watching it using an iMac webcam and having the trailer playing on the mac at the same time. I edited it using iMovie and I wrote subtitles to show what they were saying it as they were watching as the webcam mic didn't pick up their speak too well. I also put the trailer in the corner of the video so that people could tell what they were reacting to. Overall, this was to give me a quick overview of what my target audience wanted to see in a trailer and what they didn't.
