How Was Uganda colonized and by whom?
  • Beginning in the late 1800s, Uganda was colonized by Great Britain.
  • The British established administrative law across the territory.
Why was uganda colonized?
  • To the British, the main purpose of controlling Uganda was the economic gain from the natural goods and resources.
  • Some resources were:
    Tea
    Cotton 
    Sugarcane
    Tobacco

Impact of colonialism on Uganda
 Positive Effects
  • Colonization enabled cultural diffusion. It brought new religions and ideas to them.
  • The British spread education in Uganda.
  • The British also brought new technology to Uganda.
 
Negative Effects
  • Colonization took away their traditions and culture.
  • The British exploited their resources.
  • They forced Ugandans into labor.
Other issues
  • English is the official language of  Uganda because of colonization.
  •  Ugandan clothing also changed during the colonial era.
  •  Ugandans were treated badly during the colonization period.

When did uganda gain Independence and how?
  • Uganda gained independence on October 9th, 1962.
  • Uganda was given an internal self-government.
  • The first prime inister was Milton Obote.
