Natural Satellites
By Hillary
The moon is a natural satellite as it is orbiting the Earth and takes 27 days to orbit this planet. The Earth is also a satellite because this planet orbits the Sun. Unfortunately, Mercury and Venus doesn't have natural satellite because these planets are hot and near from the sun especially Mercury. Mars have two moons, the first one is called Phobos which means panic or fear and Deimos which means terror and dread. Earth has one moon, Mars has two moons, Jupiter has 67 moons, Saturn has 62 moons, Uranus has 27 moons, Neptune has 14 moons, Pluto has 5 moons while Mercury and Venus have none. The reason why Mercury and Venus don't have moons is because they are very near the sun. The sun, this is the star where the eight/nine planets are orbiting but the sun could also be a satellite for it is orbiting the centre of the Milky Way.

How many satellites does each planet have?
Earth has one moon, Mars has two moons, Jupiter has 67 moons, Saturn has 62 moons, Uranus has 27 moons, Neptune has 14 moons, Pluto has 5 moons while Mercury and Venus has none.
What would happen if we don’t have a moon?
The nights we will have will be much darker, even Venus, the second brightest object in the night sky can make the earth brighter at night. If we don’t have the moon, the length of our day would last for 6 - 12 hours a day, that’s because the earth will rotate faster without the moon’s gravitational force or the pull of the moon. Without the earth, the water will change the size of ocean tides, making it one-third lower than it is right now. If we don’t have the moon, there would be nothing to cover us from the sun. The earth’s axis will be different or it will change over time and will make very wild weather.
Does earth have two or more moons before?
It is said that the earth has two moons before when the other moon grew cold while orbiting the earth and then drifted away but they are not sure yet if this is true.
