As this condition is associated with a simple recessive trait, all incidences should be reported to the breed association, and carrier animals should be removed from the breeding program.
No treatment is available, and euthanasia should be considered based on the severity of the defect and associated lameness.
An animal can live to maturity, but sometimes maintaining such an animal is strenuous for the producer and the animal. Dependent on suffering, the animal should be put down. This could then classify the disorder as "lethal", additionally, some calves succumb to other challenges due to this disorder and can die to lack of nutritional requirements or muscle atrophy. This disorder has no reversal, and best "treatment" options should be discussed with a licensed veterinarian.
