Evaluation question 2.
How does your media product represent particular social groups?
In my initial ideas I decided that my target audience would both genders in the age range of 15 to 30. For my front cover I chose a neutral colour scheme of black, red and white as none of these colours are associated with one gender, for example - pink is associated with females and blue with males. In addition to this, the image used on my front cover features both a girl and a boy which again shows the representation of both genders. The models are also young which allows my target audience to feel relatable to them. I also chose an easy layout so the audience wouldn't find it difficult to follow, also using stylised font specifically on my masthead with the shining effect is to attract a younger audience.
For the contents page, I again didn't use any colours with a particularly associated with a specific gender. The colour scheme was grey, red and black with a graphic feature that was yellow this allows my target audience to not feel like they would be reading a "girly magazine". Also, the images used on my contents page feature both girls and boys which again makes the reader feel like both genders are being represented. For the articles on my contents page I have used both new and old bands eg. The 1975 and The Kinks which means by product will appeal to both ends of my target audience.
For the double page spread, I again used a neutral colour scheme of black, red and grey. The artist Harry Weedall whom the double page spread is about fits in my target audience as he is young and comes across as trendy. Also, the questions I asked appeal to both genders eg. Do you have a girlfriend? may appeal to the female readers and What do you do in your spare time? may appeal to the male readers. I also made sure it was easy layout so that my target audience would find it easy to follow and not get bored of too much text.
