QUESTION 1:               CD DIGIPACK
In my front cover, I’ve used a very well-known convention used in most album covers, which is the ‘Parental Advisory Explicit Content’, I also placed it in the corner of the album, cover because that is also where they are placed in each real media products that I’ve seen. Here I am reinforcing an existing convention, to create the same feel and look that an ordinary and professional albums portrays.
As seen in both of my case studies, the parental advisory explicit content are placed in the corner, which meaning if their professional album displays like so, then mine should also, to display the same feel.
In my pitch presentation I said that I wanted to use a font that wasn't too complex but not too simple at the same time, however, I couldn't find a font to my liking that fit this criteria, so instead I used a simple font and put a spin to it with complexity by editing an image into the font itself. Based on my case studies and other real media products that I've also looked at, this isn't a normal convention used, however, it came out looking quite good and also making it quite unique. It also tied in with the house style I was going with, which is natural environment with the colour white, which I got from my case study of J-Cole ‘Forest Hill Drive’
Here the house style all through is consistent, white with the natural settings.
  • Which also is the reason my front cover is of me outside looking up at the wall that has been painted on. This was taken in my home neighbourhood, which is something I copied from J-Cole as his image was shot in his hometown. I used very similar conventions so that I can capture the same feeling that he was also trying to create, so that the song and my print product have a strong link. Furthermore, the image in the font is also another image from my neighbourhood, creating that link again of natural environments and also the title of the song, which is ‘LOVE YOURZ’ so I show what’s mine which is showing my appreciation of what’s mine, which links to ‘LOVE YOURZ’, because it shows how I’m loving mine. The image taken in the words, also links in within the genre, because this style of rap, is quite exposing of the feelings, this image was quite low in masculinity showing more of a soft side.
  • Furthermore, the image I used was of the sun riding, which I believe to be beautiful image, the sun rising is always been something to be associated with an amazing feeling and lovely site, which is why the image means that Loving yours can be something beautiful and a lovely site, hence why it’s that image in the font.
In my front cover, I used a long shot, however, the composition shows that the font is more to be noticed more than the actual artist. Furthermore, the way it’s placed is as if the artist is looking at the title rather than the wall that is in the background of the image.
I was also inspired of this idea by another real media product, which is wale album,  however, I had to implement the natural environment to the image, hence me looking at the wall in the outdoors. It also has the Parental Advisory Explicit Content in the corner, which therefore is a regular convention used.
In the cd cover I used several regular conventions to portray the same feeling a normal CD would, I’ve done this through using branding on the Cd when music labels put their Logo on the CD. Since the song ‘LOVE YOURZ’ was made by J-COLE who was under Columbia Records at the time joint with rocnation and his own company of dreamville I also decided to put their logos on the CD, furthermore, it was also shown in my case study of J-cole ‘forest Hill Drive’. In my case study of Nas ‘ILLMAIC’ on his CD he also has the same thing (show picture). Further, on my Cd cover I also put down the executive producers down, I got the convention from my case study JAY-Z ‘Blueprint’. I used this convention once again so that it can be seen as a real CD cover.
  • Another very regular used convention is the ‘Compact Disc Digital Audio’, this is commonly seen on CD’s, in all of my case studies, this logo is seen on the CD, which is why I also decided to use this logo in my own Cd to convey real media products.
  • The image used for the for the CD, was a long shot, but I purposely put out of focus with a slow shutter speed to capture the lights blurred, This was used to convey the confusion people have when knowing what they are truly supposed to be focusing on, which is one of the messages expressed in the song.
