Double Exposure
Intro to Double Exposures
The basic mechanics when taking a picture is exposing, in the case of film, film to light. If it is exposed to too much light, the image is washed out and very bright. When attempting to take a double exposure it is important to keep this in mind.
There are two primary ways to achieve a double/ multiple exposure pictures:

1. Take two pictures on the same frame without advancing the film
2. Take a role of "background" images and then reload the film to take more.

It is personal preference for which method you use.

COmposition
Like the other types of photography, composition is generally up to personal preference for images, though there are some things to keep in mind. For one thing, it is important to think about what the two images will look like together. If there is a big building or person in the foreground of your image, a more delicate second exposure would likely get lost.

Similar to composition, subject matter is widely a matter of personal preference. When regarding multiple or double exposures, one can take both portrait, landscape, and object photography. Often times, multiple exposures incorporate different forms of photography into the different pieces.  This means that there is a wide range of pictures one can take and that there is room to experiment to find what type of photography you are passionate about.

Lighting and Exposure
notes
 - Take pictures with low lighting to help with the lower exposures
- Don't underexpose your images too much otherwise the images won't be exposed enough and you will lose the pictures.
!
In order to create a successful double exposure image, it is important to take multiple underexposed images in order to obtain a correctly exposed picture as the finished project
Under Exposure is Key
Primarily, the only difference between double and multiple exposures is the amount of images you compile on top of one another. Double is two and multiple is anything more than that. Oftentimes multiple exposures are more abstract.
