Mountain Biking in Tallahassee 101
Why not start this list off with my favorite trail in Tallahassee?! I've biked basically every public trail there is in the capital city and this one is my absolute favorite! I took this picture while biking on the Munson trail which is located in the Apalachicola National Forest. This trail is 8.3 miles in length and is known for being paved with red clay and its fine slopes. I love this trail because of its long enough to tire me out and of course of the beautiful Florida pines. 1

The number two spot goes to the Twilight trail. This trail is also located within the Apalachicola National Forest and connects to the Munson trail. The Twilight trail 9.7 miles long and is notorious for its loose sandy path (as you can see in the picture I snapped) and its sparse trees. It's amazing how different the Munson trail and Twilight trail are even though they're basically in the same area. I'm not really sure with it's called the Twilight trail, BUT you don't have to worry about getting transported to the Twilight Zone...

My last favorite trail in Tallahassee is the Redbug Mountain Bike Trail. This trail was named after those pesky chiggers that you can find deep in the woods and people jokingly say it's called Redbug because you'll get an itch to ride the trail again! It's located at Elinor Klapp-Phipps Park and is about 4 miles long. Even though the trail is short, I love it because you have to be on your "A" when riding through it; there are tree roots and rocks that can flip your bike if you're not careful, and plenty of slopes that can make your thighs feel like they're burning!

If you don’t have a biking buddy, it can sometimes be hard to find the motivation to hit the trails, especially during the winter months (yes, it gets cold in Tallahassee). Luckily, Tallahassee has a large community of bikers!

One of the most active mountain biking communities in Tallahassee is the Tallahassee Mountain Bike Association (TMBA). You can get in touch with TMBA by either going to their website OR Facebook page. Additionally, on their website you’ll be able to view their calendar and see which days they go riding! There are also other online groups like Capital City Cyclists and Wednesday Chaires

Another way to find riding buddies is to go to a local bike shop like Higher Ground Bike Shop, Joe’s Bike Shop, Damn Good Bikes, or Sunshine Cycles and ask them about local group bike. rides. When I first got into biking seven years ago, Higher Ground told me to go the Capital City Cyclists’ website and look up their riding schedule.

The Munson trail, Twilight trail, and Redbug trail may be my favorites, but there are few other trails in Tallahassee. Before you blindly take my word and believe that these are the only trails worth going on, here are some other trails in the area.
