Looking back at your Preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?
Looking back to my mini brief, the main thing I have noticed was the lack of research put into it. Both the mini brief and main brief were of the same genre but I did not put as much research into it as I did for the main brief. I did not take the target audience into consideration whereas there was a lot for the main brief to ensure that it suited the audience and appealed to them. This included questionnaires and constant feedback from the class. Linking from this, I have researched into similar products and in to the horror genre to gain a better understanding.
Based on the level 4 criteria of titles appropriate to institutional conventions, I watched and analysed the openings of many different horror films and how the credits are done. Since the mini brief did not require any credits, no research was done in to this, therefore, I have learnt what style of credits are used in horror films in order to suit the institution company I have chose to work in synergy with.
When planning and filming the preliminary task, I was not so aware of the generic codes and conventions within horror films. Therefore, I did not take much consideration for the mise en scene and camera angles/movements. For the research for the main brief, I have done several textual analysis on horror film openings to see the typical features within them. I have also learnt that there are hybrid and sub-genres within horror which I did not know when planning for the mini brief.
The planning for the main brief was much more in depth compared to the preliminary task. An example of this, is the narrative. The brainstorm for ideas was much more detailed compared to the mini brief due to the new knowledge of horror films and what makes a strong narrative (Todorov's Narrative theory of equilibrium)-there were many drafts of the script for the main brief in comparison to the mini brief, where only one script was written, making the narrative and speech quite weak.
