Illegal Trading and Iner-Tribal Warfare
- In the mid-1800's, American fur traders began to introduce Native peoples to liquor, which had a devastating effect on their way of life.
- Traders started to illegally sell cheap liquor to aboriginals
- Aboriginals of North-West Canada were eager to trade their furs for European tools, food, and weaponry.
- The liquor was frequently called "firewater"
- They traded strong, cheap liquor, which benefited them immensely, allowing them to make better deals
- The liquor trading led to widespread alcoholism, famine, malnutrition and death
