What have you learned from your audience feedback?
Target Audience:
My trailer is for a cross-genre film of romance and adventure but due to the audience it also has some elements of a teen movie. My primary audience is young adults (16-25) due to the plot being more interesting of those of that age group. My cast contains a mixture of female and male characters and therefore does not attract just the one gender however, I think the audience would be made up of predominately women due to the romance parts featuring in the film which generally seems to be more popular to girls.

My audience will come from category B background (middle class) but due to the age range of the audience they will be working low paid jobs and will mostly come from category E on the demographic scale as they will mostly be students and be unemployed or working part time. Therefore, my primary audience will not have a big income they don't have to pay mortgages or things like that meaning they can spend more money on going to the cinema or buying DVDs.
Why is audience feedback so important to the film industry?
"Feedback is a gift." - Jim Trinka and Les Wallace
Audience research is important to the film industry as it helps them develop their ideas and create something their audience wants.
  •  Helps fill the gap in the market
  •  The target audience can have their input making it suit the chosen market further
  •  The production team has an idea on how to make their product better
  •  You can find out what the audience doesn't like and hope for developing the genres of the film
  •  With the audience's help it is more likely to be a success as they helped make the improvements
Ways in which I gathered audience feedback:
I used surveymonkey a lot as it was quick and easy and I used lots of different way to get people to answer the survey including: Twitter, Whatsapp, Email
I also gained audience feedback with verbal feedback. I wrote some questions then asked random members of the audience and recorded their answers.
Examples of when I asked my target audience for feedback :
What do my audience look for in a film?
I created a questionnaire for my audience using surveymonkey I wanted to get more of an idea of what my audience wanted as they would be the ones consuming the products. I tried to get a bigger age range then my intended audience just so I could get a idea of the bigger picture. I also asked all genders as this is who my film was for and I didn't want it to be too unbalanced.

One of the questions I asked was 'Which is your favourite film title?' out of the four options me and my partner had came up with:
- Eternity
- One Last Touch
- Will & Darcy
- Time - travel

For that question 'Eternity' actually won but in the end we went with 'One Last Touch' as it worked better for my trailer and I think it was more unique than 'Eternity' which means it would stand out more at the cinema.

I asked my audience lots of questions and whilst I took their ideas on board some of the time I went with my own judgement as the results some times never worked as well. However, audience feedback is alway important to improve your work.
Examples of when I asked my target audience for feedback :
What do my audience look for in a film?
This collage is peoples responses to the question 'What is your least favourite things about romance movies?'  I decided to ask this question so I can develop the romance element of my trailer and try get rid of the least favourite parts of romance and makes it less 'cringy'.
There are two main characters for our movie but we wasn't sure which character would be the one to face the problems. They said they wanted the female character to be the main one so we decided to make Darcy the one to solve the problems that have occurred to Will.
Examples of when I asked my target audience for feedback :
Production Company logos and film title ideas
I decided to go get feedback on my production logos as I wanted a logo that reflected the company I wanted to create. The production company needed to be something the public would trust and produces the movies they wanted to see. I wanted the logo to be something the public would easily recognise so nothing too complicated. Due to all these reasons I needed my target audiences feedback as it was important it was something they like. The production logo was important to get right as it would be the face of my products and would appear on all my products. My film title ideas was also important to collect my audiences feedback for this needed to be right so straight away they would find the film appealing to them. Like my production logos this would appear on all my products.

I collected my data my using a website called surveymonkey. This website was useful as I could send the link to my target audience quickly so they could complete it where ever they were which made this way of collecting data much quicker.

I asked my target audience two questions:
- Which font style do you prefer for a time-travel romance film made for your age group?
- Which production company logo do you think is most appropriate and effective?

They were shown all the fonts for the two different questions and picked their favourites. After asking these
two questions I was able to find out which fonts my audience preferred and this helped me make
my product better.

The feedback was important as sometimes people will have better ideas than I might of had
because they're looking it from an audience point of view so, in a completely different perspective.
Questions I will ask my audience:
  •  Do you think the colour scheme for my poster is appropriate? Is there a colour that you think would look better?
  •  Looking at the poster what genres would you say the movie would be?
  • Do you think there is anything missing from the poster?
  •  Does this poster catch your eye?

Movie Poster:
Movie Magazine:
  • Do you think the layout of the magazine works? Does it look like a magazine you would see in the store?
  •  Can you think of any improvements for my magazine?
  •  After seeing this print product would you go out of your way to watch the trailer?
  • Do you think my movie magazine and poster works well with my trailer?
Movie Trailer:
  •  What do you think of the music for the trailer?
  •  Is there enough variety of shots in the trailer? Which shot is your favourite?
  •  Would you say there needs to be more intertitles or less?
  •  From my film trailer what genre do you think it is?
These are the answer to my questions I asked about my three products to my audience
