oLLY MURS
Magazine advert analysis into Olly Murs 'Right Place Right Time'

Harriet Richardson
In this magazine advert, the background and location settings are very plain, with the background being a plain, pale blue of a manipulated green screen room. This helps direct attention to the artist instead of the background imagery.
The colour scheme of this magazine advert are blues, reds and blacks, which are the same as the album cover, which I have found is common in album advertisement.

The different variations of text in this magazine advert mix between serif font and san serif. All the text is placed on the right of the advert, with Olly Murs taking the entire left side of the advertisement.
'Olly Murs' is written in serif font, and is written in a maroon red colour that matches the artists braces, again adding to the simplicity and creativeness of the advert. The artists name also takes a lot of room in this advert, reinforcing who the artist is and bringing attention to the name.
Underneath the artists name is the albums name, this piece of text is written in a different type of font, a font that could be seen as handwriting, and with it being capitals and messy it could be a mans handwriting, as it is stereotypical for men to have messy handwriting. This particular text is written in jet black, bold lettering, which could suggest that this information is important.
Below the title of the album is a few songs that are included in the album itself. This gives the audience a preview as to what to expect for the album, and lets them know that the number 1 at the minute is going to be on the album, prompting them to buy it. This text is much smaller than the rest of the text, reinforcing it is not the most important piece of text on the advert, but important enough to be included.
An official website is included at the bottom of the page, allowing the audience to visit the artists site and access more information.
The photography of this magazine advert is similar to others I have researched. Olly Murs is looking directly at the camera, giving direct address. This makes the advert much more personal to the audience, drawing them in and encouraging them to buy the album.
Olly's posture is very relaxed, with his hands in his pockets, this could suggest the tone of the album is relaxed and upbeat. This idea can be reinforced by the light, vibrant colour scheme, which also add to the pop genre in which Olly fits into.
The photography of this album is not too over the top and crowded, creating the perfect advert as it gives just the right amount of imagery and information that the audience need for an advertisement.
The main image is a mid long shot of Olly expressing a serious face. The lighting used illuminates his face and solidifies the seriousness in his face, not giving anything away for his album, keeping the audience in the dark and asking questions.
Just like other magazine adverts, the photography and overall look is very similar to the digipak of the album, this adds everything together for the artist and creates a great marketing package as everything is similar to each other.
