Different Types of World Projections
There are four different types of projection that use longitude and latitude to determine location.
Gall-Peters projection - is a rectangle.
Mercator Projection - is a square.
Goode-Homolosine- is an irregular projection. It is not recangular at all but is still accurate.
Robinson Projection-Is a like a globe but flat
  • Some examples......
Relative Location vs Absolute Location
  • Relative- uses landmarks and buildings to show location
  • Ex: 5 blocks north of Wawa
  • Absolute- uses latitude and longitude to show location
  • Ex: 20 degrees latitude 30 degrees longitude
Latitude and Longitude Lines
  • Latitude lines- east to west lines
  • Longitude lines- north to south lines
  • *These lines are not actually there*
  • When the latitude and longitude lines cross, they form a grid
