What is a Hologram?
Formal Definition: A three - dimensional image formed by the interference of light beams from a laser or other coherent light source.
One beam is shone directly on the recording medium and acts as a reference to the light scattered from the illuminated scene.
History and prior use of Holograms
In 1947 British Scientist Dennis Gabor developed theory of Holography (Mercury Arc Lamp as light source)
1960 Lasers were invented (holograms flourished)
History
Prior use
Tupac at Coachella 2012
Princess Leia’s Message to Obi-Wan Kenobi
Will.i.am Supporting President Obama’s 2008 Presidential Campaign
What is HoloLens?
A holographic computer built into a headset that lets you see, hear and interact with holograms within a 3-D environment such as a living room or an office space.
Microsoft has built the headset without the need to be wirelessly connected to a PC, and has used high-definition lenses and spatial sound technology to create that immersive, interactive holographic experience.
How it works
Sensor Fusion
Advanced Optics
Processing Unit
Some cool mechanics
A large compilation of sensors around the entire headset to scan the wearer's environment
High-Definition lenses, generating low latency images in order to project holograms in real life
A custom processor able to compute all the sensor data and register human inputs based upon hand motions.
