The discovery of neon went exactly like the discovery of the element krypton. In fact, neon and krypton were discovered by the same chemists, Travers and Ramsey, and the same experiment. The chemists identified neon soon after krypton in their liquid air experiment. Neon is collected from under the cover of the air-fractionating apparatus. It is then purified by being sent to the dephlegmator, that is a distillation tube, then the mixture is sent to another apparatus called dephlegmator-adsorber. Finally, depending on the degree of purification, the final mixture contains 30-75% of neon and 10-25% of helium.
