FILM RATINGS
By Annabelle Madzia
The 'U' stands for Universal- This means that the film is suitable for people of all ages. Everything that takes place in  a 'U' film will be very mild. This is because no one knows exactly what is going to upset a child. Examples of this involve the language, sexual behaviour and violence. A 'U' film will only involve sexual behaviour such as kissing and cuddling. The violent scene might only be when a character is in danger. However when the violent scenes do take place, moments of emotional stress or threat will quickly be resolved meaning the child shouldnt be that worried about the violent scenes.

PG stands for Parental Guidance. This means that the film is suitable for general viewing however some scenes may be unsuitable for young children. But a PG film is up to the parent whether or not their child can watch the film. The sexual scenes will be less detailed and frequent. PG can also explore challenging issues such as bullying, bereavement or racism.
12A films are when the film contains materials which are generally not suitable for anyone under the age of 12. No one younger than 12 may see a 12A unless they are accompanied by an adult. This adult must also make the decision whether or not they think the film is going to upset their child.
15 is only available to watch and rent by someone who is 15 and above. A 15 year old rated film could include strong violence, strong language, scenes of sexual activity, sexual nudity, references to sex, sexual violence and discriminatory language
Films rated 18 are strictly only for adults. This means that no one under the age of 18 should be allow to view the movie. Meaning that they are not allowed to go into the cinema or rent the film. Due to the film being 18 and for adults only this means that it could involve very strong violence, strong language, portrayals of sexual activity, sexual violence, strong horror, strong blood and gore, real sex and discriminatory language / behaviour.
