Anne Hutchinson was a deeply religious woman who once spoke her mind. She believed that “ If god has predetermined for me salvation or damnation how can any behavior of mine change my fate?” This was a threat to the puritan experiment causing her to be banished from Massachusetts Bay in 1637. Minister Roger Williams was also banished.
Anne Hutchinson
Anne Hutchinson was originally from Alford, England, but she and her family moved to Massachusetts Bay Colony in 1634. She wished to be allowed freedom of thought, but instead she was governed by the strict beliefs of the Puritans. She later started a women’s club at her home, expressing her own views on the Puritan church. These meetings were seen as a threat, and it caused her to be banished to Rhode Island Colony in 1638.
