Tissues and Organs
A Tissue is formed by groups of cells which carry out the same function.

An organ is a number of tissues working together as a functional unit
A Dicotyledonous root
The root of a dicotyledonous plant is an example of an organ that consists of many different kinds of tissue.
Tissues in a Dicotyledonous root
The epidermis is made up of epidermal cells which covers the primary part of the plant.

The root hairs are formed by cells that have extensions. Root hairs allow for absorption of water and minerals.

The cortex is made up of parenchyma tissue which facilitates the movement of water from the edge of the root to the centre.

At the centre of the root, there is the stele which is composed of a group of vascular tissues.
The pericycle are a layer of cells which surrounds the vascular tissues.

The xylem tissue is the vascular tissue responsible for the transport of water and nutrients from the roots in the soil to parts of the plant.

Phloem is the tissue in plants that transport food to the parts of the plant where it needs to go.
