What is a Levee?
Natural or artificial slope or wall to regulate the amount of water.
What is it made of?
Made of earthen, like sediments.
Where are Levees found?
They usually run along the side of a river or on the coast.
How are Natural Levees Formed?
1) The river overflows
2) Excess water flows into flood plain
3) When water retreats sediments are left behind
4) Larger sediments are deposited near the river to form levees
Why are Man Made Levees made?
Artificial levees are made to prevent the flooding of coasts and rivers.
Formation of a Natural Levee:
Man Made Levees a Good or Bad Idea?
They make it possible for people to live by rivers, even if they frequently overflow.
Although, this means excess water is diverted elsewhere and will flood elsewhere.
