How did you attract/address your audience?

GENRE
Another way I have attracted my targeted audience is by the genre I have chosen. The genres I have aimed my music magazine towards is Hip Hop and R&B.
I chose these genres because through my research i have found out that these genres are very popular in the magazine world, this is very useful as its more likely people will read my magazine when they see the type genre i am presenting. In my research i also found out that hip hop and R&B are very popular within the social media with teenagers and young adults,so therefore my music magazine would become more pouplar than say a magazine based on classical music. Just to make sure i have went up to several people in college and have asked what type of genre they would lke to see in a magazine, 60% have said Hip Hop and R&B, 20% have said pop and dubstep and the rest have said Rock/ Indie. this servay has helped me a lot to decide what type of genre i should do aswell as what type of audience to target.
artists featured
The models used in all the images throughout my magazine, were of a similar age as the magazines target audience. By doing this, the magazine would look more attractive to its audience as they could relate to the artists that featured in the magazine due to being within the same age group. This supports the gratification theory of personal identification as it allows the audience to identify with the artist and look up to them as role models.
MASTER
Piece
All the images used had the artist directly looking into the camera; by doing this it is showing that the artist is directly addressing its audience, which would create a further attraction towards my magazine because it helps encourage a relationship between the magazine and the reader on a personal level.
The male audience will feel involved with the image on the front cover as the model is directly looking at them. Moreover the female model facial expressions has been presented in a sexual way through the use of her lips being slightly open, this is known to appeal to male audience a lot.
Another way which I attracted and addressed my audience was to make my magazine cover very much like a conventional magazine cover, and by using a bold font for the Masthead I thought it would attract my audiences attention. I didn't want my magazine cover overloaded with too much writing as I personally find that slightly off putting when buying a magazine, therefore I went for less writing but with professional looking font.
layout also attracts the audience in different ways such as the sky line at the top of the front cover as readers usually read from the top to the bottom so the tiny bit of information at the top of the front cover should draw them in first. The large image in the center of the page also attracts the audience to the magazine as it is in your face. The article in the double page spread is split into a column to look like there is less text than there actually is. I did this so that the readers can actually be bothered to read it. Overall the way I have organised my images and text, should draw people in
LANGUAGE
I used informal language to address my audience as it is the best way to grab their attention. If I talk in a chatting language then they can relate to the magazine and can understand it better than if it was very formal. It also makes the text more interesting and less boring.
For example, I believed it was important to not change any of the language the artist said during the interview, as it allows the audience to read it in the same way it would be spoken, for example when the artist discusses her past about “I mean if you can and that's what you wanted to do then yeah ” helps create an informal style.
feedback
I think that I have been very successful at targeting my audience as I have took on board there feedback from my drafts and applied some of it into my final designs. For example, I have used a large masthead across the top of my front cover as this is what my audience said would be a good thing to have as it would attract people and draw them in. I also used the skyline that was in draft 1 as they said that it was also very effective. The feedback also said that they wanted a clear layout and that draft 1 had the best layout. I decided to used this feedback and try and make all of my pages neat and organised so that it will attract good attention to the readers. I also took on board their constructive feedback, such as, the use of the flash. Most of them said that they were a good idea but they didn’t think that shape stood out that well to make it that effective. I decided to change this by making the flash and different shape and adding a colour that would stand out
