Billboard

Billboard Inspirations

Colour: Black, grey and white make for effective colours as their dominance increases as the colours get darker. The way the grey blends into the white puts more focus on the black phone which is an essential technique as the goal is to sell the phone.

Text: There is limited text: two lines containing the name of the phone and a website. All of the text is white so that the pink coloured text of 'IPlayer' stands out more in order to make it evident that it is an important feature and is a good reason to buy the phone.

Image: The image is bright and therefore has more presence on the billboard. There will be a camera on my billboard which will have a similar presence to the phone on this one. Using the character of 'the Stig' will appeal to different audiences.

Layout: This billboard is not confusing as everything is well composited. The text is not kept together in order to keep focus on the image. For my billboard, the layout will also be simple which is conventional as billboards cannot afford to have text and images that cannot be seen when they are placed high up.

Colour: Orange and white are the factors that draw attention however black is a very bold colour and that is important here as the person looking at it needs to know that the magazine is available in digital formats. Using a tablet and a phone is what I am going to do on my billboard as digital magazines are growing more and more popular.

Text: The limited amount of text is inspirational to my product because I can see that it makes the billboard more attractive. Out of these three inspirational billboards, this one looks most professional as it only includes the name of the magazine, a slogan and the name of the magazine's website.

Images: The thing that I found most appealing about this billboard was the use of images showing the magazine in different formats. If people are not interested in buying a print version of the magazine then they might want to download it on their phone or tablet. Because of this, I have decided to use this idea for my design.

Layout: The separation of text and images has a very effective purpose: to strengthen the boldness of the use of orange. There is a significant gap which I am going to use, to some extent, in my own product.

Colour: Although purple and white are the main colours, there is some black on the shading of the man and the woman which adds style to connote that the film festival it is advertising will be stylish and unique. Purple immediately grabs your attention against the blue skyline.

Text: Again, the text is limited. It informs you of the name of the festival, its date and includes a website. The careful use of text inspires me to continue this conventional technique for my design.

Image: There is only one image which is kept separate from the text but not as much as on the billboard above for 'the resident'. The way in which image and text is separated on this product helps me visualize the general look of the billboard I will be creating. The image on this billboard suggests romance which is further connoted by the apparent moon in the background, creating an idea in audience's minds that the festival will have a classic Hollywood feel to it.

Layout: The billboard can be split into three sections: in the first part is the image, in the second section is the name of the festival and in the third section is the date and website. This basic and easy to follow layout makes the billboard more cost-effective as less money has to be spent on design and it makes the viewer more intrigued.
