What Have I Learned About Film Making
By Alexander Allman-Varty
Preliminary Excercise
Our preliminary exercise was designed to use the 180 degrees rule and a shot reverse shot, we also had to use some continuity editing. There was some dialogue as well however this was limited, we have come a long way in terms of editing, filming and production in our AS Level piece opposed to our preliminary. You can see our preliminary exercise here.

Research
My foundation production was based on music and rugby. I researched a variety of films with similar genre such as Bend It Like Beckham, and Les Bleus De Ramville, as well as trawling The Art of the Title to learn about opening sequences. Here is a link to one of my art of the titles.

Planning
The first step in planning was to create a story board. This was made up of simple sketches/drawings of what we wanted from each scene. After we had made a story board we started to create call sheets so we knew where we would be needed to film and at what time. Finally we made a shot list which was a detailed document containing every scene which we had shot.

Preliminary Construction
When producing our preliminary film we were limited to what shots we could use. This was down to our inexperience of using a camera and the guidelines saying we only needed to use a shot-reverse-shot and apply the 180 degree rule. It was the first time we had used a tripod so we all got turns to try and bubble it, this is down to the tripod being a very important piece of equipment, and one you need to know how it works.
