What have you learnt about
technologies from the process
of constructing this product?
Photoshop
I learnt a lot about using Photoshop, and have
developed my Photoshop skills very far since the
preliminary task. I have furthered my skills during this
process of making my music magazine, and
experimented with tools and features to create the
perfect indie music magazine. I learnt how to edit the
saturation of images, the magnetic lasso tool, layer via
copy and many more. I learnt different skills such as
editing an image so that only one part of the image is in
colour, which is done by creating the part you want in
colour in another layer, as well as enhancing colours
and levels, and much more, which was useful in
creating professional looking images that were suitable
for my magazine and genre. Learning these skills
helped me to develop my editing skills further and
create a realistic, professional looking magazine.
Photography
While I have always enjoyed photography and do it as a
hobby outside of production in media, I learnt more about
taking profile images and the different types of shots that can
be used when taking pictures of people. I learnt more about
how to use the mise-en-scene to my advantage, such as
using a guitar in images to make it seem more realistic, as
well as the benefits of taking different sorts of images that
relate to music, such as taking photos at concerts. I learnt
about the importance of lighting when taking an image, and
different angles that make images look interesting and
creative. I learnt the difference made when using the flash
and not using the flash on images, and what effect both ways
of taking photos had on the images. By having equipment
such as white backdrops and various lights, I was able to
produce HD and clear images. I also used the outdoors to
take images, and learnt the importance of having a variety in
poses/mise-en-scene of images.
Websites used for presentation
I used a number of websites to present my work, and learnt about
many that I did not know existed that will be useful in the future. I learnt
about Prezi, which is very helpful to present work in interesting and
imaginative ways, at the same time of it being informative. I also learnt
about other sites, such as WeVideo, Emaze, Slideshare, Canva and
more. Using the Web 2.0 to find sites that will help me present my work
was very useful, and I learnt and developed using PowerPoint and
Movie Maker, which I could save and develop on sites such as these. A
site which I found extremely helpful was Glogster. I found that Glogster
ensured my presentation of my work to be attractive and fun at the
same time, but still being informative. Each ‘Glog’ I made was different
to the other, and the feature of being able to insert images, videos,
music and more was extremely helpful, especially for the research and
planning process. Using these sites also helped me develop smaller
skills such as embedding and editing the HTML of my blog and
presentations.
Blogger
While constructing my music magazine, I have used Blogger to show my
journey and progress, from my research and planning to my final magazine
pages. Blogger is my own portfolio which shows my progress and tracks what I
have done, showing the development of my magazines and any
changes/improvements I have made on the way. Through Blogger, I have used
a number of sites to show the research and planning, as well as updating what I
have done, which furthered my skills of presentation and broadened my
knowledge on websites available on the Web 2.0 that I did not know about.
Using Blogger has also helped me to understand editing HTMLs to customize
my blog and make it my own.
