Question 3
what have you learned from audience feedback
by Morgan & Briony
We decided that it would be appropriate to pitch our initial ideas to classmates firstly to gain knowledge of if the idea was suitable and achievable. By doing this we understood that our idea was slightly hard to understand and the narrative was very complicated for a 3-minute video. So we simplified the idea and decided to make it more conceptual but still with an underlying narrative. We then made a rough cut of how we wanted our final video to look; we uploaded this to YouTube and sent the link around on social media sites and by email. We got feedback from this from various sources and this enabled us to improve our final video.
Morgan
The feedback from the survey has showed us that the majority of people that completed it were females aged from 18 to 24 and they were no older than 34, this was positive feedback because although we are trying to target a wide audience the teenage girls are our main target. On the other hand this shows us we have targeted our desired audience but we have wide room to broaden the age range we are targeting to. We also found out that the artist suited the brand and image we wanted to create so we have casted a good actress to be the star in text. Some feedback was that our lip-syncing was in time and it was edited to the beat and we set a good mood, this is all needed to create a good brand image and keep to the theme we want to create. Artists that people compared our video to were Beyoncé and this is a successful R and B artist that we could take further inspiration from.
Morgan
So we should widen the amount of people we are targeting to make our brand more successful and I think this is easily achievable by social media sites and promoting our video in the correct way. It has showed us similar artists that we can take inspiration from, and has also made us aware that we could been seen as copying an existing artist and we want to create inter textual references but we do not want to copy word for word, we want to create our own brand. So overall I believe that carrying out feedback is essential to making a good relatable and understandable music video, if we did not get this feedback we could have carried on with our initial idea and over complicated our video making it very hard to fit in a narrative story within the time of the song. I believe that getting constructive criticism from the audience that we are targeting to has helped us a lot with the construction of all aspects of our project, our video the most obviously but we have taken this feedback and applied it to the digipack and website. Giving a theme that runs all the way through our branding.
